The state govt. of Andhra Pradesh is setting the stage for the launch of prestigious Family Physician scheme. AP government has directed all the medical officers at the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to shoulder the task. The state government had also asked the AP Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) to get ready with sufficient stocks of drugs for supplying to the PHCs. About 67 varieties of drugs for all the primary ailments will be kept ready at the PHCs.

Health and Family Welfare minister said that “We have trained all the field-level personnel to attend the duties as per the manual readied for Family Physician concept. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched the scheme on 15 August 2022.” He took stock of the preparedness of the staff by inspecting the village clinic at Ponnekallu village of Tadikonda mandal. He enquired with the staff about the training they underwent and job chart. He had also interacted with the locals and explained them about the new concept initiated by the chief minister.

Implementation of AP Family Physician Scheme

Medical officers at PHCs will provide medical advice to the patients depending on the need and refer the cases either to district/teaching hospital or nearest Arogyasri network hospital. Otherwise, entire treatment and prescription will be done through telemedicine. People will be given drugs for 3 months without requiring them to visit the clinic very frequently if there is no health emergency.

Village clinics were also equipped to conduct 14 clinic tests with simple blood sample which the staff in the clinic will tackle. A Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) will be visiting the villages to deliver the drugs and take up clinical tests. The family physician project will not only provide the required medical intervention on time to save lives and also reduce the burden on the teaching hospitals.
