President Ram Nath Kovind has launched Free Smartphone Distribution Scheme in Chhattisgarh. Under CG Sanchar Kranti Yojana, govt. will start distribution of free smartphones to around 50 lakh people in the state. In 1st phase, chhattisgarh govt. will distribute smartphones to beneficiaries in urban areas from 30 July to 16 August. In 2nd phase, rural areas will be covered from 17 August to 22 September 2018.
Marking the official launch of Free Smartphones Scheme 2018, Prez has given phones to 2 women beneficiaries and 1 college student.
Chhattisgarh SKY Scheme will benefit 45 lakh women belonging to poor families and five lakh college students.

This scheme is specifically designed to reduce the digital divide and to increase mobile connectivity which currently stands at 29% in rural areas. Around 13,900 villages will be covered under SKY 2018. At the official launch event, 2 women beneficiaries and 1 college students have received smartphones. The scheme will ensure various developmental activities to attain new heights in the region and state.
This smartphone distribution will be carried out for the next 2 months. All the 4G phones will consist of mobile application named ‘Goth’ which means “to talk”. This app will enable beneficiaries about various public welfare schemes launched by the state govt. and the central government. People can also get information on schemes related to agriculture, skill development, employment, education and self-help groups.
Chhattisgarh Free Smartphone Distribution Scheme 2018 will take place in two phases. 1st phase will start from 30 July and will continue till 16 August 2018 in urban areas. Next phase will start from 17 August and will continue till 22 September 2018 in rural areas.
Prez also dedicated a new hospital building of Late Baliram Kashyap Memorial Medical College in Dirampal village, near Jagdalpur (300 km from Raipur). This hospital building has the capacity of 500 beds with 75 specialist doctors and 376 paramedical staff. This hospital is extremely significant for the security forces which are involved in anti-Naxals operations in the region. Previously, injured personnel needs to be shifted to Raipur for quality treatment.

The state government of Chhattisgarh has launched a new scheme named “Sanchar Kranti Yojana (SKY)” to reduce the digital divide among citizens. Under this scheme, Government is going to distribute around 5.5 million smartphones for free across the state.

The Chief Secretary-led committee has been constituted by the state government for the effective implementation of Sanchar Kranti scheme in the state. As per the provision, the service providers can install the towers on the government building for free. This service will be expandable, but the cost of service shall be paid by the company.
Latest Update – Chhattisgarh Free Smartphones Distribution Scheme (1st Phase) will launch from May 2018 during CMs “Vikas Yatra Campaign”. In this 1st phase, govt. will distribute 50 lakh smartphone. Priority will be given to women heads of the rural households.
The aim of this scheme is to provide free smartphones for the poor citizens and increase the mobile connectivity in the state. The government will distribute smartphones in two phases under “Sanchar Kranti Yojana”.
Sanchar Kranti Yojana (SKY)
In rural areas, the beneficiaries will be selected by the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development. However, the eligible beneficiaries in the urban areas will be shortlisted by the Urban Development Department. This scheme will also be implemented in colleges for the students by the Department of Higher Education.
In the first phase(2017-18 and 2018-19), the government will distribute 5.08 million smartphones in the state. However, the remaining 480,000 phones will be distributed in the second phase across the state under this scheme. Moreover, the population comprising of less than 1,000 people will be covered at village level in the second phase of this scheme.
Under Sanchar Kranti Yojana, the female members will also be covered. After receiving free smartphones, these phones will be connected to Aadhaar numbers and bank accounts of the beneficiary to check the misuse of this scheme.
Furthermore, the users can also share their feedback on government’s policies and schemes using these smartphones.
