Chhattisgarh government is accepting applications under Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana for farmers and landowners who want to grow commercial trees on their private land. The scheme, run by the Forest and Climate Change Department, offers a full 100 percent subsidy for plantation on up to 5 acres of land.

The scheme was launched on 21 March 2023 on the occasion of International Day of Forests. It was announced by the then Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on 17 December 2022 during Chhattisgarh Gaurav Diwas. The scheme is still running and now comes under the current state government led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

About Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana

Mukhyamantri Vriksh Sampada Yojana is a large scale commercial plantation drive that encourages tree plantation on private land. The main aim is to promote wood based industries, increase farmer income and create jobs. Farmers can earn an estimated 15,000 to 50,000 rupees per acre every year depending on the tree species they choose.

The state has set a target to plant trees on 1,80,000 acres of land within the next 5 years. Around 23,600 farmers across all 33 districts were set to carry out commercial tree plantation on 36,230 acres of land when the scheme started. For the first time in the country, there is guaranteed procurement of trees of identified species at a minimum support price.

Farmers can also earn extra money by selling carbon credits to international buyers. The scheme helps reduce pressure on natural forests and improves the green cover of the state.

Subsidy and Benefits

The subsidy amount depends on the size of the plantation area. The state gives a full 100 percent financial subsidy for planting trees on plots up to 5 acres. For plantation areas that go beyond 5 acres, the government provides a 50 percent financial subsidy on the input expenses.

  • 100 percent subsidy for plantation on plots up to 5 acres, and 50 percent subsidy for areas above 5 acres.
  • Cash incentive of 10,000 rupees per acre every year if at least 80 percent of the planted trees survive the annual check in April.
  • Expected income of 15,000 to 50,000 rupees per acre every year from the sale of timber and other products.
  • Free certified saplings and technical guidance from the forest department.
