Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched Business Blaster Young Entrepreneur Scheme in November 2022 through Department of School Education, Punjab. School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has been leading the rollout of the scheme. It started as a pilot project with 11,041 Class 11 students from 32 government senior secondary schools in 9 districts.
In the first phase, 3,032 students received ₹60.64 lakh as seed money. Seeing the response, the state government expanded the scheme to all 1,920 government senior secondary schools in the 2023-24 academic year. Over 1.83 lakh Class 11 students and 7,813 teachers joined the scheme across all 23 districts.
For the 2024-25 session, 1,38,676 students registered for the scheme. Out of these, 52,050 Class 12 students from 1,920 schools were shortlisted to receive seed money of ₹2,000 each. Around ₹10.40 crore was credited for these young entrepreneurs, with ₹9.38 crore already paid to 46,910 students as of October 2024.
The scheme continues to grow. On 5 July 2025, Department of School Education hosted Business Blaster Expo at IIT Ropar, where over 40 student teams pitched their business ideas in a Shark Tank style format before senior CEOs and industry leaders. At Progressive Punjab Investors' Summit, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said students have generated around ₹70 crore through their business ideas under the scheme.
