Kailash Mansarovar Yatra scheme of Madhya Pradesh is running in 2026, and pilgrims from the state who finish the journey can claim back half of their travel cost. Religious Trusts and Endowments Department gives 50% of the actual expenses, with a top limit of ₹30,000 per pilgrim.

Only those people qualify who get picked by the Ministry of External Affairs for the yatra. For 2026, the Ministry has kept the yatra between June and August, with 20 batches of 50 pilgrims each, and registration on the official portal closed on 19 May 2026.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Madhya Pradesh Scheme Details

Madhya Pradesh government runs this money help scheme through the Directorate of Religious Trust and Endowment. Idea is simple. Travel to Kailash and Mansarovar costs a lot, so the state pays back part of the bill after the pilgrim comes home. Payment is not made in advance. First you travel, then you submit your bills, then the district office pays.

Benefit is once in a lifetime. Income taxpayers are kept out. So mostly it helps middle and lower income families of the state who could not afford the trip otherwise.

Application Process for the Grant

Application for the state grant is offline, through the district collector office. Steps are given below.

STEP 1 - Download the scheme form from the department notice at Kailash Mansarovar Yatra scheme guidelines and fill it in clear handwriting with your name, address and bank details.

STEP 2 - Keep your selection letter from the Ministry of External Affairs and the yatra completion certificate ready, because without these two papers the claim will not move ahead.

STEP 3 - Attach the actual expense papers such as tickets, receipts and the amount paid to KMVN or STDC, along with your Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate, Aadhaar, passport copy and bank passbook copy.

STEP 4 - Submit the full set to the District Collector office of your district within 60 days of finishing the yatra. Late files usually get rejected, so do not sit on it.

STEP 5 - District Collector office checks your papers and then sends the approved amount to your bank account. Keep the receiving copy of your application for follow up.

Yatra Updates for 2026

Ministry of External Affairs announced the 2026 yatra schedule in May 2026. Journey runs from June to August 2026 through two routes, Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. Each route has 10 batches of 50 pilgrims, so around 1,000 seats in total. Selection was done by a computer draw that is random and gender balanced.

Online registration on kmy.gov.in was open till 19 May 2026, and paper applications are not taken. Since the 2026 registration window is over, people planning the trip should watch the same portal for the 2027 announcement, which normally comes around April or May.

Central government does not give any direct money help for the yatra. State subsidies like this Madhya Pradesh one are the only cash support available, so the state scheme still matters for MP pilgrims who travelled in the June to August 2026 batches.

Who Can Apply

Rules for the state grant are short and strict. Check them before making the file.

  • You should be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh with a valid domicile certificate.
  • You must have been selected by the Ministry of External Affairs and must have completed the yatra.
  • You should not be an income taxpayer, and this will be checked at the district level.
  • Grant can be claimed only one time in your whole life.

For the yatra itself, the Ministry keeps its own rules. Applicant must be an Indian citizen with an ordinary Indian passport, aged between 18 and 70 years as on 1 January 2026, with a BMI of 25 or less. People with heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma or epilepsy are usually not cleared. Medical checks happen in Delhi first, and then again at Gunji or Sherathang during the journey.
