Chhattisgarh government's Shakti Swarupa Yojana (CG Shakti Swarupa Yojana) offers financial support to destitute, widowed, and divorced women so they can start their own business and become self-reliant. The scheme is run by the Women and Child Development Department of Chhattisgarh and is open for eligible women in the state.

Shakti Swarupa Yojana was announced by the state government to help women who lose their financial base after the death of their husband or after a divorce. The main aim is to make these women self-dependent so they can support themselves and their children with confidence and dignity. The scheme also supports women who want to continue their higher education or take up vocational training.

Women can apply for Shakti Swarupa Yojana through the Women and Child Development Department office. The full details of eligibility, benefits, and the application process are given below.

What is Shakti Swarupa Yojana (CG Shakti Swarupa Yojana)

When a woman loses her husband or gets divorced, she often has no financial base left to earn her living. Many young widowed or divorced women are not highly educated and do not have any vocational skill. Shakti Swarupa Yojana helps such women by giving them training support, guidance for vocational skills, and a loan or grant to start their own business.

The scheme was first started in four selected districts of the state, namely Bastar, Narayanpur, Bijapur, and Dantewada. It is a welfare scheme of the Chhattisgarh government for women who are widowed, divorced, or destitute.

Objective of Shakti Swarupa Yojana

The main aim of the scheme is to help women from poor families who have lost their husband or are divorced, and make them self-reliant. This helps them raise their children and family with self-respect and confidence, without depending on the husband's family.

Eligibility for Shakti Swarupa Yojana

Women who meet the following conditions can apply for the scheme:

  • The woman herself, or her mother, father, or husband (in case of widowhood, the husband's name can also be there) should be listed in the current Below Poverty Line (BPL) survey list to be eligible for the scheme.
  • If the woman's name is not in the BPL survey list, then her family's annual income should be less than ₹60,000 to be considered eligible. An income certificate from the competent authority is required for this.
  • The woman's age should be between 18 years and 50 years.
  • The woman should be a permanent resident of Chhattisgarh state.

Types of Support Under Shakti Swarupa Yojana

Subsidy on loan to start own business

After the bank approves the project proposal, the department pays 15 percent of the total project cost, or up to a maximum of ₹30,000, to the bank as a subsidy. This helps the woman start her own business without a heavy financial burden.

Financial help for education and higher education

If an eligible woman wants to study above class 12, or take vocational training in colleges, or has been selected for higher vocational training institutes but cannot take admission due to lack of money, then the actual cost of that study or training is paid directly to the institute as reimbursement.

  • If the woman wants to take vocational training, the cost of that training is covered under the scheme up to a maximum limit of ₹25,000. The woman should take the training from a government or government-linked training institute as far as possible.
  • If the eligible woman has to stay in a hostel or on rent at another place, the district officer verifies this and gives ₹1,000 per month to the woman in addition to the above amount. The amount is not given in cash but through the bank account.

Financial help for higher vocational education

  • If the eligible woman wants to take higher vocational education, financial help is given under the scheme. The woman should meet all the qualifications for the vocational training and get admission approval from the concerned vocational training institute. After that, the amount is given to the institute.
  • The maximum limit of financial help for higher education under the scheme is ₹1 lakh per woman per year.
  • If the eligible woman has to stay in a hostel or on rent at the other place, the district officer verifies and gives ₹1,000 per month to the woman in addition to the above. The money is given through the bank account, not in cash.
