Delhi government has started registration for free rooftop solar panels on 21 September 2026. Households using up to 400 units of electricity a month can give their consent at solar.delhi.gov.in and get a 2 kW or 3 kW solar system installed for free.
Registration on solar.delhi.gov.in portal is just a consent form, not a subsidy claim. You tell your power company that you want solar and its size, and a vendor empanelled by IPGCL does the installation. Subsidy amounts and eligibility are can be checked in Delhi free solar panel scheme.
Delhi free solar panel registration process
STEP 1 - Open the Delhi Solar Portal at solar.delhi.gov.in. In the 'Citizens Corner' section, go to 'Apply for Rooftop Solar (RTS)' and click 'Apply Under Delhi Solar Energy policy'.

STEP 2 - A pop-up asks for your power company. Select any of the BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Tata Power DDL or New Delhi Municipal Council, whichever name is printed on your bill, and click 'Submit'.

STEP 3 - Enter the CA number from your electricity bill, your mobile number and email ID. Use the mobile number registered with your power company, then type the OTP you receive.
STEP 4 - Select the solar capacity you want, 2 kW or 3 kW, and submit your consent. Homes using close to 400 units a month are better off with 3 kW.
STEP 5 - Apply for a net meter connection on your power company's portal. BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna consumers use rts.bsesdelhi.com, and Tata Power DDL consumers apply through tatapower-ddl.com.
STEP 6 - Wait for the vendor visit. The vendor checks your roof and site, installs the plant, and your power company then fits the net meter.
Details needed for registration
Keep your latest electricity bill in hand before you start. Most of what the form asks for is printed on it.
- CA number, which is your electricity account number on the bill
- Mobile number registered with your power company, for the OTP
- Email ID for updates on your application
- Your average monthly units from the last few bills, to decide between 2 kW and 3 kW
Who should register
Domestic consumers with average use up to 400 units a month get the system free and are served first. Homes above 400 units can also give consent for up to 3 kW, but they pay whatever is left after ₹78,000 central subsidy and ₹78,000 Delhi subsidy. Group Housing Societies can register for common areas too.
Families who want to buy a system on their own can still take the central subsidy through PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and then claim the Delhi subsidy on the same portal under 'Apply for Delhi Solar Subsidy and GBI'.

FAQ's
When will the vendor come after registration
Power Department has not given a fixed date. Vendors picked through IPGCL's tender will visit homes in the order consent was received.
What if my roof fails the feasibility check
Free installation depends on the roof being suitable. Families without a usable roof can look at community solar, where a share of a plant on another roof is credited to your bill through virtual net metering.
How much will I earn after installing solar
Official sample figures show a monthly benefit of about ₹300 for a 2 kW system at 200 units, going up to about ₹2,400 for a 3 kW system in homes using 600 units.
