Haryana government launched Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana in 2018 for the safety of girl students. Under this scheme, all girl students get free travel facility from their home to their educational institutions. The state government also announced a special task force called "Durgashakti Vahini" to reduce crimes against women. The main aim of the scheme is to make girls feel secure at public places, at their workplaces and while travelling.

The scheme was announced by former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar with the tagline "Mhare Haryane Ki Shaan, Ladka-Ladki Ek Saman". Under the updated Vidyarthi Parivahan Suraksha Yojana, the education department has kept the free transport facility running for students of classes 1 to 12 in government schools for the 2026-27 academic year as well.

What is Haryana Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana

Women safety is a major topic in India and every political party talks about it during elections. Survey reports still show that India ranks among the nations with a history of crime against women. Women are treated as soft targets, from domestic violence which is mostly unreported, to rape cases. In Haryana, the situation was worse, but the state government kept working on new measures and safety laws for women.

Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana was announced on 16 January 2024 along with the free student transport scheme. The transport department provides buses for villages where more than 50 students go to far away schools, mini buses where 30 to 40 students travel, and the education department arranges auto rickshaw support where 5 to 10 students need help. The earlier plan of separate free school transport and new bus routes has been brought together under this single student transport security drive.

After the 2024 assembly elections, the Haryana government has kept the transport drive alive for all government school students. The scheme is now showing a special focus on girl students. District education officers have been told to continue the free travel facility in the 2026-27 academic session.

Benefits of Haryana Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana

Benefits of the scheme help both girl students and all government school students. Free travel facility for girls helps them feel safe on the road and reduces the money burden on poor families.

Eligibility and Application Process

Eligibility for the scheme is open to all girl students of Haryana studying in any school or college, and to students of all government schools studying in classes 1 to 12 who live more distance from their school. The education department informed all district education officers and BEOs about the continuation of the transport scheme in 2026-27.
