Andhra Pradesh government's YSR Asara scheme is a debt waiver scheme for women Self Help Groups (SHGs). Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the scheme on 11 September 2020 to clear the outstanding loans of SHG women. The scheme was completed in four installments, with the final tranche released on 23 January 2024.
YSR Asara is one of the schemes announced by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government in the election manifesto, also called as Navaratnalu. Under this scheme, the state government repays the outstanding bank loans taken by women members of self help groups belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities as on 11 April 2019.

What is AP YSR Asara Scheme
YSR Asara Scheme is a loan waiver scheme run by the Andhra Pradesh government for women of self help groups. The state government repays the outstanding bank loans of SHG women directly to the banks. The scheme was carried out in four phases from 2020 to 2024, and the full amount promised has been paid.
The main aim of the scheme is to help debt ridden women SHGs come out of the cycle of loans. Women who had taken loans before 11 April 2019 and still had outstanding dues were eligible for the scheme. The total amount set aside for the scheme was around Rs 25,570 crore.
YSR Asara Scheme 4th Phase and Final Payment
Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy released the fourth and final tranche of the YSR Asara scheme on 23 January 2024 from Uravakonda in Anantapur district. An amount of Rs 6,394.83 crore was paid directly to 78,94,169 women belonging to 7,98,395 self help groups.
With this final payment, the government completed the full loan waiver promise for the scheme. In the earlier three tranches, the government had already repaid about Rs 19,176 crore of the loans. The total amount released under the scheme in four years reached around Rs 25,570 crore.
YSR Asara Scheme Phase 1 and Phase 2
The first installment of the YSR Asara scheme was credited on 11 September 2020. An amount of Rs 6,318.48 crore was released for the benefit of over 9.33 lakh women SHGs with more than 90 lakh members.
The second phase was launched on 7 October 2021 at PVR Boys High School in Ongole. As many as 78.76 lakh women of 7.97 lakh self help groups got Rs 6,439.52 crore. With this, the total amount paid in the first two installments reached Rs 12,758 crore.
