RMEWF Financial Assistance to Orphan Children of ESM gives steady money help to the orphaned children of Ex-Servicemen (ESM). Eligible children get ₹3,000 per month, paid once a year, to manage their education and daily living costs. Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), the Ministry of Defence body, runs this scheme for the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, and it is open for new applications.
The grant is paid out of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF). It started in May 2007 with ₹500 per month and went up to ₹1,000 per month in October 2011. Since 1 April 2022, the amount has stayed at ₹3,000 per month for all applicants. The payment goes straight to the child's bank account, so there is no middleman involved.
RMEWF Financial Assistance to Orphan Children of ESM - Introduction
This scheme is a small measure of relief for children who have lost both parents, one of whom served in the Armed Forces. Losing both the Ex-Serviceman and his spouse can leave a young child helpless, more so when the parent had no pension. Through this grant, KSB helps such children carry on with their studies and settle down.
Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat runs the implementation with help from Zila Sainik Boards (ZSB) and Rajya Sainik Boards (RSB). The main aim is to give a steady support to the children of the brave Ex-Servicemen during a very hard time in their life.
