PRL Junior Research Fellowships give Indian scholars a platform to carry out advanced scientific research under the Department of Space. Every year, the Physical Research Laboratory opens fresh applications for the programme, and the 2026 notification has now been released with the latest deadlines and conditions.
Junior Research Fellowships at PRL help driven students pursue their Ph.D. across a wide range of physical and space science subjects. Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend, access to modern research facilities, and the chance to register for a Ph.D. at premier institutes holding a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PRL.
PRL Junior Research Fellowships - Introduction

After completing two years, the Junior Research Fellow is reviewed by the competent authority. Based on the review, the fellow may be promoted to Senior Research Fellow with a higher monthly amount, as per the rules of the Department of Space.
PRL also offers the Platinum Jubilee Research Fellowship, named ATAL, to mark 75 years of the laboratory. It is given to highly motivated research fellows working on high-quality fundamental research. A maximum of two ATAL fellowships can be awarded every year, and the amount of ₹40,000 per month is given in addition to the regular fellowship during the 3rd to 5th year of tenure.
