Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram is running across Madhya Pradesh in 2026 and gives free, cashless care to every pregnant woman who delivers in a government hospital, plus free treatment for sick babies up to one year of age. No fee at the counter, no bill at discharge.
Running since 1 June 2011 under National Health Mission, this scheme covers normal delivery and caesarean both. Free diet is given for 3 days after a normal delivery and 7 days after a C-section, and the 102 ambulance brings you to the hospital and drops you back home free.
Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram Madhya Pradesh
Public Health and Family Welfare Department of Madhya Pradesh runs this scheme in every district hospital, civil hospital, community health centre and primary health centre of the state. Money problems should not stop a woman from reaching a hospital for delivery, that is the plain idea behind it.
Care is not limited to the delivery day only. Since 2014 the cover was widened to all pregnancy problems before and after birth, and the same free entitlements apply to sick newborns and infants up to one year who come to a government facility for treatment.

Every service listed below is free at government health facilities. Staff cannot ask for any payment for these, and if someone does, a complaint can be filed on CM Helpline 181.
- Free delivery including caesarean section, with no user charge of any kind.
- Free medicines and consumables needed during the stay, so families do not have to run to a chemist shop outside.
- Free tests like blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound and other required checks.
- Free blood whenever the doctor says a transfusion is needed.
- Free diet for 3 days in a normal delivery and 7 days after a C-section.
- Free transport from home to hospital, hospital to hospital in case of referral, and drop back home.
- Free treatment for sick infants up to one year of age, including newborn care units.
Who Can Get the Benefit
There is no income limit, no BPL card condition and no caste condition in this scheme. Any pregnant woman who comes to a government health institution in Madhya Pradesh gets the free package.
Sick newborns and infants aged one year or below also get free treatment at government facilities. Care taken at a private hospital is not covered, unless the case is referred under a separate government tie-up.
How to Get JSSK Benefits
STEP 1 - Get your pregnancy registered with the local ASHA worker or at the nearest sub centre, anganwadi or health centre. Registration in the first three months helps in getting all antenatal checkups on time.
STEP 2 - Keep the Mother and Child Protection Card given by the ANM or ASHA worker safe. This card works as the record of your checkups and is shown at the hospital counter.
STEP 3 - When labour starts, call 102 for the Janani Express ambulance. The vehicle picks the woman from home and takes her to the government hospital without any charge.
STEP 4 - At the hospital, show the identity proof and the Mother and Child Protection Card at the registration counter. Staff will admit the woman under JSSK, so no money has to be paid for delivery, medicines, tests, blood or food.
STEP 5 - After discharge, ask the hospital for the free drop back facility to reach home. If any staff asks for money at any stage, note the name and call CM Helpline 181 or complain to the hospital in charge.
Documents Required
Paperwork is light here because the scheme is meant for walk-in care. Still, carrying these makes the counter work faster.
- Aadhaar card or any photo identity proof of the pregnant woman.
- Mother and Child Protection Card or the pregnancy registration slip given by ASHA or ANM.
- Old checkup reports and prescriptions, if any test was done earlier.
Other Support Along With JSSK
JSSK covers the free services, but cash support comes from a different scheme. Under Janani Suraksha Yojana, a woman delivering in a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh gets cash help in her bank account. Free ambulance service is run under Janani Express Yojana on the 102 number, and BPL women who deliver in tied-up private hospitals are covered under Janani Sahayogi Yojana.
