Development of Industrie-Training Scheme is a state-level skill program of Puducherry run by the District Industries Centre for educated unemployed youth. It sponsors candidates for short-term trade training so they can either start their own venture or get suitable employment. District Industries Centre keeps accepting applications for this training every year.
The scheme helps eligible candidates undergo training in specialized short-term trades offered by institutions in neighboring states. By joining this program, a candidate gains hands-on experience and also receives a monthly stipend to support the learning journey. This serves as a stepping stone for a career, whether the person chooses to join a company or prefers to become an entrepreneur.
Development of Industrie-Training Scheme - Introduction
Development of Industrie-Training Scheme focuses on helping the youth of Puducherry by giving them practical skill sets. The aim is to create employment opportunities and to motivate entrepreneurship among educated unemployed youth. Training is imparted in categories such as In-Plant Training, Advanced or High Skill Training, and the Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
Under In-Plant Training, candidates are placed at various industrial establishments in a real time environment. Trainees learn the job by observing, assisting and working in the plant itself, which helps them gain better skill in the trade. The training period is one year, with a monthly stipend paid based on educational qualification.

Benefits
This scheme provides financial support through monthly stipends so that candidates can focus on their training. The stipend amount depends on the educational qualification of the trainee, as shown in the table below. These amounts are paid to the trainee every month during the one year training period.
| Qualification | Monthly Stipend |
|---|---|
| Higher Secondary or ITI and below | ₹4,500 |
| Any Graduate or 3 years Diploma in Engineering or equivalent | ₹7,500 |
| Degree in Engineering or Post Graduate in Arts and Science or equivalent | ₹9,000 |
The stipend is based on the minimum educational qualification fixed for the trade concerned. So the amount stays the same for any notified trade even if the trainee has a higher qualification. However, trainees who hold a post graduate qualification in a trade that needs only an undergraduate degree as the minimum qualification receive ₹3,000 per month.
To make sure the training runs well, the government pays ₹300 per trainee per month to the industrial units that give training. This money covers the wastage of raw material during the training period.
