Odisha Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme started on 1 September 2021 with a flat 15% subsidy on the cost of the vehicle, capped at ₹5,000 for two wheelers, ₹10,000 for three wheelers and ₹50,000 for four wheelers. On 26 April 2023, the Commerce and Transport Department amended the purchase incentive to a battery-based structure, which gives higher support and is still applicable in the current extension period.

The subsidy amount is credited directly to the bank account of the beneficiary by the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) where the vehicle is registered. Only approved electric vehicles registered in Odisha can get this cash benefit.

This policy also provides 100% exemption on motor vehicle tax and registration fees for all categories of electric vehicles during the policy period. It was notified on 29 October 2021. Buyers can also get a 5% interest subsidy on loans taken for a personal EV, and state government employees can get interest-free loans for buying an electric vehicle.
