Functions Devolved to Panchayat Raj Institutions
As per the 73rd Constitutional amendment, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has devolved the following functions to the Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) in respect of the Rural Water Supply Department vide G.O.Rt. No 569 Dt. 22-12-2007:
- Operation and Maintenance of Multi village schemes (CPWS Schemes) is looked after by the Zilla Parishads.
- Operation and Maintenance of all individual PWS schemes (single village schemes) is looked after by the concerned Gram Panchayats.
- Operation and Maintenance of hand pumps in a Mandal is looked after by the Mandal Parishads.
- Funds required for Operation and Maintenance of the above schemes are directly released to the concerned Zilla Parishads, Gram Panchayats and Mandal Parishads by the Commissioner, PR and RE under the 13th Finance Commission Grant.
