Out of Turn Employment to Sportspersons in State Services gives medal winning athletes of Uttarakhand a direct route into government jobs. The Department of Sports, Government of Uttarakhand, runs this scheme to reward athletes who have represented the state at national and international competitions.
Scheme continues in 2026 with a fresh push from the state government. In a review meeting on 2 July 2026, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to complete the process of out of turn government appointments for medal winning athletes within the fixed timeline. Officials said 29 medal winning athletes have already been given government jobs under this policy.
Out of Turn Employment to Sportspersons in State Services - Introduction
Out of Turn Employment to Sportspersons in State Services helps athletes who have won gold, silver or bronze medals in recognized international and national games. Eligible sportspersons get direct appointment on Gazetted and Non-Gazetted posts, with job levels ranging from Level-3 to Level-10, depending on their achievement.
The scheme was approved by the Uttarakhand government under the state Sports Policy and is implemented through Government Order No. 728/VI-3/2023-33(7)2014. Recruitment follows an offline process, and the Sports Directorate publishes vacancy details whenever departments send their requirements. A new Uttarakhand Sports Policy 2026 is also being prepared in line with the National Sports Policy 2025, which keeps out of turn appointments for medal winners as a key part of athlete support.

Benefits
Medal winning athletes get out of turn employment in government departments without waiting for regular recruitment cycles. They can be appointed to both Gazetted and Non-Gazetted posts, from Level-3 to Level-10, based on the level of their achievement. A gold medal winner at the National Games can be placed in a higher post than a bronze medal winner at a state level competition.
The state government has also asked departments to accommodate most appointed sportspersons within the Sports Department itself, wherever possible. This allows trained athletes to serve in coaching and administrative roles, so their sporting experience keeps benefiting the state.

Before applying, athletes should check the full conditions given below:
- Permanent residence: Candidate should be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand and must have represented the state in the specific National Games competition for which they are applying.
