Uttarakhand government has approved Mukhyamantri Uchcha Shiksha Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana 2026, a ₹200 crore scheme to give job-oriented skill training to about 1.19 lakh college and university students. The state cabinet cleared it on 4 October 2026 at its meeting in Banbasa, Champawat, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Students will learn practical skills, including skill diploma courses, alongside their regular degree. Spending is spread over five years. Uttarakhand's Department of Higher Education will run the scheme.

Who gets training under Uchcha Shiksha Kaushal Samvardhan Yojana

Students of government, aided and private universities in Uttarakhand are covered, along with students of colleges affiliated to these universities.

Not everyone gets it at once, though. Higher Education Secretary Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam has said the first phase will cover students of government colleges and government-aided non-government colleges. Private universities and their colleges are part of the scheme but not of the first phase.

Courses under the scheme

Courses fall into two groups. Skill enhancement courses cover subjects that companies are hiring for right now:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Web development
  • Drone technology
  • Brand development and digital marketing
  • Banking

Value-added courses lean towards local work and self-employment. These include agriculture awareness, mushroom farming, beekeeping, craft and textiles, eco-tourism and heritage, entrepreneurship and yoga.

Students planning to start their own work after training can also look at Uttarakhand Mukhyamantri Swarojgar Yojana 2.0, which gives loans of up to ₹25 lakh.

How students can join

No separate online application form has been announced yet. Training will run through colleges, so students should watch for notices from their own college or university. Scheme rules and the course schedule have not been released so far.
