Jammu & Kashmir Government runs Muhafiz (Guardian) Scheme through the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB) for workers in the unorganized sector. Around 3 lakh registered construction workers get life, accidental and disability insurance cover under this scheme.

Workers registered with JKBOCWWB can claim benefits ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh depending on the type of incident, along with a micro credit facility of Rs. 10,000 through a smart identity card.

What is Jammu and Kashmir Muhafiz Scheme

Muhafiz Scheme gives social and economic security to workers whose jobs are seasonal and unstable, with little support from labour laws or trade unions. Benefits available under this scheme are given below.

• Registered Construction Worker in Case of His / Her Natural Death - Rs. 2,00,000 to the nominee / dependents of the registered worker in case of his / her natural death.
• Registered BOC, Workers in case of an Accidental Death - Rs. 4,00,000 to the nominee / dependents of the registered BOC Workers in case of an accidental death.
• Workers in case of his Partial Permanent Disablement - Rs. 1,00,000 to the registered BOC Workers in case of his partial permanent disablement.
• Workers in case of Partial Disablement - Rs. 2,00,000 to the registered BOC Workers in case of permanent disablement.
• Workers for Class 9th to 12th through National Scholarship - Rs. 1200 per annum per child (upto 2 children) as education support for the children of registered BOC Workers for class 9th to 12th through National Scholarship.
• Micro Credit ATM Cum Smart Identity Card - Micro credit facility of Rs. 10,000 along with a specially designed Micro Credit ATM Cum Smart Identity Card.

J&K government launched Muhafiz Scheme on 8 January 2018 for workers in the unorganized sector. Workers need to register online or through other modes to get these benefits, and registration has to be renewed every year with JKBOCWWB. This scheme mainly helps labourers from rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
