Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on 1 February 2022 that the government will expand the PM e-Vidya programme of "One Class, One TV programme" from 12 to 200 TV channels to impart supplementary teaching and build a strong mechanism for education delivery. Presenting the Union Budget 2022-23 in Parliament, Sitharaman said that due to the pandemic-induced closure of schools, children, particularly in rural areas and those from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and other weaker sections, lost almost two years of formal education.
Under the PM E Vidya Yojana, 200 DTH channels are dedicated to Classes 1 to 12, which enables all states to provide supplementary education in regional languages. High quality e-content in all spoken languages is developed for delivery through internet, mobile phones, TV, radio and digital teachers.
