Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme 2026 for Govt. College Students - Free Education For Those Getting Above 90% Marks

Punjab state government has launched "Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme", a new scheme to provide cheaper and quality education to government college students. Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme helps bright students from financially poor backgrounds, particularly those belonging to the general category, besides boosting the gross enrollment ratio (GER) in higher education.

Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme 2026 - Objectives

Punjab government approved the implementation of the CM Scholarship Scheme which benefits government college students of the state. The annual financial implication for this scholarship is Rs. 36.05 crores. The objective of the Punjab Mukhyamantri Scholarship Yojana is to financially help and encourage the poor meritorious students for pursuing higher education. The government aims to fulfill the promise of cheaper and quality education for poor through Mukhyamantri Scholarship Yojana.

Who Can Avail Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme Benefits

The scholarship can be availed by Punjab government college students. The scheme is purely merit based and there is no family income limit. Students from General, OBC, SC, ST and EWS categories can apply, provided they are residents of Punjab and have secured admission in a government college in the state.

What is Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Amount

Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme provides a certain concession in terms of percentage of fee charged by universities. The waiver is decided on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying exam.

• Students scoring above 60% but below 70% marks are given a concession equivalent to 70% of the university fee.
• Students scoring between 70% to 80% are given a concession of 80% in university fee.
• Students scoring between 80% to 90% marks are given a concession of 90% in university fee.
• Students with above 90% marks are given a concession of 100% in university fee, meaning such students can avail free education.

Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme Conditions

Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme benefits cannot be availed with another scholarship. The state government stated that this scholarship scheme cannot be availed in tandem with another scholarship. However, in cases where students receive a scholarship from any other scheme of the state or central government but the concession under the new scheme is higher, only the difference amount between the two scholarships is paid.

CM Scholarship Scheme is applicable to those students who are the residents of Punjab and are studying in any of the following institutions

- Government polytechnic & engineering colleges
- Maharaja Ranjit Singh University, Bhatinda
- I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar

Need for Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme

Until now, the number of admissions in these government run colleges has been very low and many seats remain vacant every year. Since the scheme provides tuition fee waiver, it will definitely attract admissions in these colleges and institutions.
