Progress so far
As per the data from the vazan tihar (weighing festival) held in 2019, around 9.70 lakh children in Chhattisgarh were suffering from malnutrition. By March 2020, around 67,889 children had become free from malnutrition, a decline of about 13.79%.
According to the National Family Health Survey 4, 37.7% of children under 5 years in the state were malnourished and 47% of women aged 15 to 49 years were anaemic. Most of the malnourished children were from tribal and remote forest areas.
During the COVID-19 period, Anganwadi centres were closed for some time. To keep the nutrition level of children and women intact, the state government arranged distribution of ready-to-eat nutritious food to about 28.78 lakh beneficiaries of 51,455 Anganwadi centres with the help of Anganwadi workers. Dry rations were given in place of cooked food during that period.
Under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government continues to expand the scheme's reach through Anganwadi centres. As of 2026, it covers more than 40 lakh children and 10 lakh pregnant and lactating women across the state.
