How to Claim Rah-Veer Reward in UP

Process to get reward under this scheme is simple and doesn't need much paperwork from the person who helped. Steps below explain how a good samaritan can claim the Rs. 25,000 reward.

STEP 1 - After helping an accident victim reach hospital, inform local police about the incident so they can verify details with the doctor who treated the victim.

STEP 2 - Police will issue an official acknowledgment letter on their letterhead which includes name, contact details, address, location, date and time of the incident, and a short description of the help given.

STEP 3 - One copy of this acknowledgment goes to the good samaritan and another copy is sent to District Level Appraisal Committee, headed by the District Magistrate, for considering the reward.

STEP 4 - If the victim was taken directly to hospital instead of involving police first, hospital shares the details with police, who then issue acknowledgment following the same format.

STEP 5 - Once approved by District Level Appraisal Committee, reward amount of Rs. 25,000 gets transferred directly to the good samaritan's bank account.

Eligibility and Reward Rules

Any citizen who helps a road accident victim receive medical attention within the golden hour can apply for this reward, there is no separate application form needed beforehand. Few rules decide how the reward amount gets divided among helpers.

• If more than one person helps save the life of a single accident victim, reward amount is split equally among all of them instead of paying the full amount to each person.
• If a person helps save multiple victims in the same or different accidents, reward is given at Rs. 25,000 per victim saved, but total reward for one good samaritan cannot cross Rs. 25,000 per instance.
• Same person can get recognised up to five times in a year for repeated acts of helping accident victims, so reward is not limited to one time only.

National Level Awards Under Good Samaritan Scheme

Apart from the cash reward given at state level, the scheme also has 10 national level awards of Rs. 1,00,000 each every year. These awards go to the most worthy good samaritans, chosen from people who already received state level rewards during the year. This adds extra appreciation for people doing this good work regularly.

Why Rah-Veer Scheme Matters

India records one of the highest numbers of road accidents in the world. As per Road Accidents in India 2023 report by MoRTH, road accidents rose 4.2 percent to over 4.8 lakh cases, causing more than 1.72 lakh deaths, the highest ever recorded. Overspeeding remained the biggest reason behind these deaths, responsible for 68 percent of cases, followed by wrong side driving.
