Uttar Pradesh government's Board of Secondary Education, Prayagraj, sends the list of meritorious Intermediate (Class 12) pass students every year to the National Scholarship Portal under the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship. Students in the top 20th percentile of their stream, with family income up to ₹4.5 lakh a year, can apply online at scholarships.gov.in.
This scholarship gives ₹12,000 a year at the graduation level for the first three years and ₹20,000 a year at the post graduation level. Students in technical courses like B.Tech get ₹20,000 in the 4th year. Renewal continues up to 5 years if marks and attendance stay above the required limit.
UP Inter Pass Students Scholarship - Online Application Process
Applying for this scholarship needs a One Time Registration (OTR) number first. Here is how eligible Inter pass students can apply on the National Scholarship Portal.
STEP 1 - Go to the official National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in and click on 'New Registration' to complete OTR. Keep an active mobile number and Aadhaar number ready before starting.
STEP 2 - Enter the mobile number and Aadhaar number (or Aadhaar Enrolment ID) and complete e-KYC through OTP or fingerprint verification, as asked on screen.
STEP 3 - After OTR is done, log in with the OTR number, select Domicile State as Uttar Pradesh and choose 'Post-Matric' from the scheme list to generate the Application ID.
STEP 4 - Fill in general information, category details and academic details of Class 12, then select 'PM-USP Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students' from the scheme options.
STEP 5 - Upload the 12th mark sheet, family income certificate, category certificate (if applicable) and disability certificate (if applicable), then click 'Confirm and Submit'.
STEP 6 - Get the submitted application verified by the college or institute nodal officer before the closing date. An application not verified by the institute or the state nodal agency is treated as invalid.
Students who got the scholarship in the last four academic years can apply for renewal on the same portal by uploading their previous year mark sheet, instead of going through the fresh application steps above.
Eligibility Criteria for UP Inter Pass Students Scholarship
Not every Intermediate pass student qualifies for this scholarship. UP Board decides the cutoff marks for each stream every year based on who falls in the top 20th percentile, so the exact marks required change from year to year.
- Candidate should have passed Intermediate examination from UP Board and be listed in the top 20th percentile of marks in their stream, that is Science, Commerce or Humanities.
- Family income from all sources should not cross ₹4.5 lakh a year, and the candidate should not already be getting any other scholarship or fee reimbursement.
- Candidate should be taking admission in a regular graduation course, not correspondence, distance mode or a diploma course, at a college recognised by AICTE, UGC or the concerned regulatory body.
Students who took a drop after Class 12 before joining graduation are not eligible under this scheme. The scholarship list is also reserved by category, with 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC students, and a 5% horizontal reservation for students with benchmark disability of 40% or more. Half the scholarship slots are kept for female students.
Scholarship Amount and Payment
Approved students get the scholarship money directly in their Aadhaar linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. Payment status can be checked on the PFMS portal under 'Know Your Payment' or by logging in on the National Scholarship Portal.
