Nielit Internship Programme gives Indian students a real chance to work on live projects under expert mentors. National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) runs this stipend based internship for students of recognized universities in India and abroad, and applications remain open through 2026. Selected interns receive a monthly stipend and a completion certificate once they finish their training and submit an accepted project report.

This programme works as a bridge between classroom learning and the professional world. Students get practical exposure in electronics and information technology while being guided by qualified supervisors and scientists. The internship is meant for genuine training, so candidates are expected to follow all rules and keep up a good attendance record during the entire period.

Nielit Internship Programme - Introduction

Nielit Internship Programme helps students turn their academic knowledge into practical skills through guided work at NIELIT. Each intern is supervised closely and is expected to follow the confidentiality and conduct rules of the organization. This is a short term training opportunity and does not create any right to a permanent job later.

The internship runs for a minimum period set by the student's curriculum, up to a maximum of 6 months. This period cannot be extended, and a student can use this internship only once during the whole academic career. NIELIT engages a limited number of interns each financial year, with five seats for the S&T section and five for the non-S&T section at NIELIT Haridwar.

To qualify for the stipend and the certificate, an intern must maintain at least 80% attendance every month. Falling below this limit in any month makes the intern ineligible for that month's stipend and the final completion certificate. Stipend is paid only after the internship ends, once the project report is accepted by NIELIT Haridwar, through cheque, NEFT, or RTGS.

Eligibility

Applicants need to satisfy a few basic conditions before their application can be considered. Meeting these criteria does not guarantee selection, as the process is merit based and preference goes to candidates with a strong academic record and relevant exposure.

  • Applicant should be an Indian citizen and currently enrolled in a recognized university in India or abroad.
  • Applicant should have secured at least 60% marks in the most recent degree or certificate examination.
  • Applicant should be pursuing or have completed a Diploma, Graduation, Engineering, or a Master's degree.

The internship is applied for in offline mode, so there is no online login based registration for the Haridwar scheme. Below are the steps to send in the application.

STEP 1 - Prepare a brief write-up explaining why you want to join the internship and how it fits with your course work.

STEP 2 - Get the application forwarded or recommended by your sponsoring institution. Even candidates applying through the AICTE internship portal need an endorsement letter from their college or university.

FAQ's

What is the stipend for interns?
