Scheme for Subsidy on Interest for Establishment of 1 to 20 Milch Animal Farm for Scheduled Caste - Introduction

This scheme is made for small and poor farmers from the Scheduled Caste community of Gujarat. It helps them buy between 1 and 20 milch animals such as cows or buffaloes, based on their need and capacity to maintain the unit.

To get the benefit, a farmer has to take a bank loan in the current financial year from a nationalized bank or a financial institution approved by the Reserve Bank of India. On this loan, the government gives an interest subsidy of up to 12% for a period of five years. The subsidy goes straight into the loan account, so there is no cash payment to the farmer.

Beyond milk, the scheme also supports sustainable farming. It provides good quality organic manure that improves crop fertility and yield. Dung can be used as fuel at home, and surplus fodder and agricultural by-products are used by the animals and turned into value-added products like milk and meat.
