Chief Minister Housing Assistance Programme is a state government scheme of Meghalaya that gives EWS and LIG families money help and building materials so they can live in safe and strong homes. Housing Department runs this scheme in rural and urban areas, and the state government keeps it going through yearly budget allocation.

The scheme works in two simple ways. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families get three bundles of GCI sheets to repair or improve the roof of their existing house. Low Income Group (LIG) families get a credit-linked subsidy of up to ₹75,000 to construct a durable house with at least two rooms.

Chief Minister Housing Assistance Programme - Introduction

Housing Department of the Government of Meghalaya launched this scheme to replace the old Rural Housing Scheme. Many poor families could raise the walls of their house but could not afford a good roof, so the earlier scheme did not work well. Under the new programme, the government directly provides roofing material to EWS families and helps LIG families build complete dwelling houses.

This scheme is implemented in both rural and urban areas of the state. Funds are shared among the districts based on the State Budget Allocation of the year. The official scheme page on the Meghalaya government portal is still live and was last updated in August 2026.

Main aims of this scheme:

  • To give strong roofing material to EWS families so their existing houses become safer and last longer.
  • To help LIG families build their own durable dwelling houses with the support of a credit-linked subsidy.
