Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme guidelines are available to download in PDF format at pmfme.mofpi.gov.in. The scheme is accepting applications for credit-linked subsidy and other support components, and has been extended till September 30, 2026.
PMFME Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme launched by Ministry of Food Processing Industries on 29 June 2020 under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan. It supports the Vocal for Local vision in the food processing sector by providing financial, technical and business support to micro food processing units. The scheme runs with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore and aims to bring 2 lakh micro food processing units into the formal sector.
PMFME Scheme Guidelines
The scheme follows the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to scale up procurement, services and marketing. States identify products with priority on perishables such as fruits, vegetables, spices, fisheries and traditional foods like honey and turmeric. Support is focused on processing, storage, branding and reducing wastage. New enterprises are eligible only for ODOP products, while capital investment is prioritised for existing ODOP units.
As per the latest update, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has moved a proposal to extend the scheme for five more years with revised guidelines. The proposed changes include raising the credit-linked capital subsidy ceiling beyond the existing upper limit of Rs. 10 lakh per unit, giving preference to women entrepreneurs and enterprises in hilly regions, and focusing more on branding and marketing support.
Key Benefits
PMFME Scheme offers several support components for micro food processing units, self-help groups and producer organisations. The main benefits are listed below.
- Credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the eligible project cost with a ceiling of Rs. 10 lakh per unit for upgradation of infrastructure and capacity addition. Minimum 10% beneficiary contribution is required, with the balance covered through a bank loan.
- Seed capital of Rs. 40,000 per SHG member for working capital and small tools. Priority is given to SHGs working on ODOP products, and the amount is given at the federation level as a repayable loan to members.
- On-site skill training and handholding through capacity building and training programmes. As of June 2025, 1,16,666 beneficiaries have been trained across the country under the scheme.
- Special focus on women entrepreneurs and aspirational districts. Women-led enterprises make up around 40% of all beneficiaries under the scheme.
- Transition from the unorganized sector to the formal sector, with support for branding, marketing and common infrastructure.
