Government of India has restructured and extended the PM SVANidhi Scheme 2025 (Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi) to continue supporting street vendors across the country. First launched on 1st June 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis, the scheme gave small vendors a fresh chance to restart businesses and gain financial independence.
Now, under the new decision approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme will continue till 31st March 2030 with a total outlay of ₹7,332 crore. The restructured version is expected to benefit 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries.
This new PM SVANidhi 2.0 update brings more than just loans. It adds UPI-linked RuPay credit cards, cashback incentives, training in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and food safety measures. The goal is not only financial help but also long-term social and economic growth of vendors and their families.
PM SVANidhi 2.0 Scheme
PM SVANidhi 2.0 is a government scheme managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and supported by the Department of Financial Services (DFS). While MoHUA anchors the scheme, DFS ensures banks and financial institutions provide loans and credit cards to vendors.
The main objective of the PM SVANidhi Scheme is to give street vendors simple access to working capital loans so they can run their businesses without depending on moneylenders. The scheme also encourages vendors to adopt digital transactions, which helps in building financial inclusion. By offering timely financial support, the scheme helps vendors expand their businesses and improve the living conditions of their families. At the same time, it focuses on building long-term skills such as entrepreneurship and self-employment to ensure sustainable growth. Another important aim is to connect street vendors with other government welfare schemes so that they and their families can get maximum benefits in a combined manner.
