Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah and Nikah Yojana is a marriage support scheme of Madhya Pradesh government. It gives ₹55,000 to poor families for the marriage of their daughter. Widows and divorced women who cannot afford their own marriage can also use this support. Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Department runs this scheme. It started in 2006 as Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana. In November 2015, the name was changed to Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah evam Nikah Yojana and the support amount went up from ₹28,000 to ₹51,000. The amount is now ₹55,000. A separate Nikah Yojana was started in 2012 for Muslim girls, widows, and abandoned women, and its rules are the same as the Kanya Vivah scheme. An eligible family has to fill the prescribed application form and submit it at the local panchayat or urban body office. Steps are given below.

STEP 1 - Go to the Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Department website at socialjustice.mp.gov.in and open the section for Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah and Nikah Yojana.

STEP 5 - The girl's name must be registered on the Samagra Vivah portal, and Aadhaar number with e-KYC is needed for both the bride and the groom. Keep the acknowledgement slip safe, as it is used later to track the application.

Mukhyamantri Kanyadan / Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana 2026 Benefit Amount

Under the scheme, one couple gets ₹55,000 in total. Of this, ₹49,000 is sent straight to the girl's bank account through DBT payment, and ₹6,000 is given to the district level for organising the mass marriage event. Household items are also given as gifts to the newly married couple.

Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana Eligibility

An applicant has to meet the following conditions to get benefit under this scheme.

• The girl or her parents must be permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh.
• The girl must be at least 18 years old and the groom at least 21 years old at the time of marriage.
• The girl's name should be registered on the Samagra Vivah portal.
• A woman who is destitute and cannot afford her own remarriage can apply, and women who are legally divorced can also get this benefit.
• The family should live below the poverty line and the name must appear in the BPL list. This is checked on the department portal.

Changes in Kanya Vivah Yojana From 15 May 2025

Madhya Pradesh government made some changes in the scheme that came into effect from 15 May 2025. These are listed below.

• Only girls from families living below the poverty line are eligible. The parents should belong to a poor family and their name must be in the BPL list, which is verified on the department portal.
• The mass marriage events are held three times a year, on Basant Panchami, Akshaya Tritiya (Tulsi Vivah), and one other fixed date. In tribal areas, four events are held and the dates are announced by the department.
• Each district can have at least 11 and a maximum of 200 couples. An event is held only when at least 11 couples have registered.
• Applications are made online. Applicants get their eligibility certified at the school level or district level and then apply on the portal. Aadhaar number and e-KYC of the bride and groom are required.
• The financial support is ₹49,000, sent directly to the girl's bank account through DBT, along with ₹6,000 for the district level event.
• Mass marriage events are organised with help from the government, public representatives, or social organisations.
