Eligibility and Selection Process
Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana has clear eligibility criteria and a transparent selection process designed to prioritize deserving beneficiaries:
- Lottery-Based Selection: The scheme follows a lottery-based selection process. All eligible applications are entered into the lottery, ensuring fair and unbiased selection of beneficiaries.
- Priority to Specific Groups: Livestock owners with Gopal Credit Cards, Lakhpati Didi Cards, and members of the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities are prioritized. Within these groups, 16% of the total beneficiaries are reserved for Scheduled Castes, while 12% are reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
- RFID-Tagged Animals: Only livestock that are tagged with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags are eligible for insurance under the scheme. The tagging ensures proper identification and traceability of the animals.
- Limit on Free Insurance: Beneficiaries can insure a limited number of animals free of cost under this scheme. The maximum allowed is 2 milch animals (such as cows or buffaloes), 10 goats or sheep, or 1 camel per livestock owner. This ensures that the scheme reaches a larger number of beneficiaries while maintaining budgetary balance.
