Delhi’s women were promised a monthly support through Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, also known as BJP’s ₹2500 scheme. This scheme was meant to give ₹2,500 every month to poor and middle-class women in Delhi. It was announced during Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 as a strong promise, but even after six months of approval, no payment has been made till September 2025.

Many women are now asking why this money has not yet reached their bank accounts. Is it because of rules, beneficiary data problems, lack of money, or political games? Let’s look closely at what is causing the delay in this scheme and how it affects lakhs of women in Delhi.

The scheme was seen as a big help for women, especially homemakers, workers in the informal sector, and those struggling with rising living costs in the city. But the delay has created both frustration and political fights between BJP and AAP.

What is Mahila Samriddhi Yojana – BJP’s ₹2500 Promise

This women scheme was started for Delhi women aged 21 to 60 years belonging to families with annual income less than ₹2.5 to 3 lakh. Each eligible woman was to get ₹2,500 every month directly in her bank account through DBT. That means ₹30,000 yearly for each woman, and the government planned to cover around 17 lakh women under this scheme.

The scheme was also planned to have some exclusions like – women having more than three children, women already getting benefits from other government schemes, or those belonging to higher income families. BJP leaders called it a step towards women’s independence, but AAP argued that too many exclusions will reduce the number of beneficiaries.

Timeline – From Announcement to Delay

September 2025: Still no money has been transferred, only fresh promises of progress.

June-August 2025: Government kept saying preparations are ongoing, but registration never started.

April-May 2025: AAP held protests across Delhi, accusing BJP of betraying women, while beneficiaries kept waiting without results.

March 25, 2025: Delhi Budget 2025 allocated ₹5,100 crore for the scheme. An online portal for applications was also announced.

March 8, 2025: On Women’s Day, the Delhi cabinet gave approval. Leaders said registration would start soon and payments would begin in about 1.5 months.

February 2025: BJP won the election and Rekha Gupta took oath as Delhi’s CM. The new government said AAP had left the treasury empty, so audits were required.

January 2025: BJP promised the scheme in its election manifesto, calling it a Modi guarantee.

Main Reasons Behind Delay in Launch of Mahila Samriddhi Yojana

1. Database and Verification Problems

The biggest challenge is creating a verified list of beneficiaries. For this, data has to be matched from Aadhaar, ration cards, tax records, and other schemes. Since Delhi does not have a central system, lakhs of women are waiting for manual checks. Officials also have to be careful about privacy under new data rules, which is slowing down the process.

2. Complicated Eligibility Rules

Income cap of ₹2.5-3 lakh per family, exclusion of women with more than three children, and restrictions for those already in other schemes – all these checks have made the process slow. Informal workers with no clear income proof are the most affected.

3. Financial and Administrative Delays

Although ₹5,100 crore has been allocated, extra money is needed for running the portal, verification teams, and committees. Approvals, meetings, and rules are taking too long. BJP also blames AAP for leaving behind financial debts.

Political Battle Between BJP and AAP

AAP leaders are attacking BJP saying women are still waiting with “phones out for ₹2500“. Protests have been held across Delhi. BJP says it will not leave any eligible woman behind and blames AAP’s mismanagement for the slow start.

Impact on Delhi Women

For women managing households with rising monthly expenses (average ₹25,000 per family), this scheme could help in buying food, paying school fees, or starting small work. The delay means many women are turning to loans or microfinance, which increases their burden.

Other states like Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana and Jharkhand’s Maiya Samman Yojana started quickly and are already benefiting lakhs of women. Delhi women feel left behind compared to these states.

Haryana Government is also launching its Lado Lakshmi Yojana on 25th September 2025.

What Next for Mahila Samriddhi Yojana?

There is no confirmed launch date of BJP’s Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in Delhi as of now. Some officials hint it may start after October 2025 or in the next budget cycle. The government may begin with a phased rollout through the official portal wcd.delhi.gov.in. Women should keep Aadhaar, bank account details, and income certificate ready.

If delays continue, protests or even court cases may push the government to start the scheme faster.
