Haryana Government has launched a special scheme for pregnant women named Lado Sakhi Yojana, announced during the Teej festival on 27th July, 2025 in Ambala. This new scheme is aimed at boosting the health and care of pregnant women and encouraging the birth and welfare of girl children in the state. Under this scheme, ₹1000 will be given to each Lado Sakhi (health worker) on the birth of a girl child.
What is Lado Sakhi Yojana?
Lado Sakhi Yojana is a new welfare scheme introduced by the Haryana government to provide dedicated care and monitoring for pregnant women, especially during delivery. Under this program, selected women health workers (Lado Sakhis), such as Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), will look after pregnant women, ensure proper healthcare, and support them at every stage.

Incentive for Girl Child Birth
One of the most important features is the ₹1000 incentive given to each Lado Sakhi for every girl child birth they assist. This move aims to promote the birth of girl children and further strengthen the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, which has already shown a positive impact in Haryana’s gender ratio.

Impact of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) in Haryana and India
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), started in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Panipat, Haryana, has played a major role in fighting gender bias and promoting the value of the girl child. The scheme focuses on improving the birth ratio of girls, supporting girls’ education, and ensuring better health and opportunities for daughters.
Key Achievements of BBBP:
- Sex Ratio at Birth Improved: The national sex ratio at birth increased from 918 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24. In Haryana, the girl child ratio improved from 871 in 2014 to 906 in 2025, showing real change at the ground level.
- More Girls in Schools: Enrollment of girls in secondary education rose, with the Gross Enrollment Ratio increasing from 75.5% in 2014-15 to 78% in 2023-24.
- Safer Childbirth: Institutional deliveries increased from 61% in 2014-15 to over 97% in 2023-24, ensuring safer health conditions for mothers and babies.
- Strong Community Awareness: Popular campaigns like ‘Selfie with Daughter’ and celebrations for the birth of girl children have helped change mindsets in families and society.
BBBP is now part of the larger Mission Shakti, which also provides support for women’s safety, legal help, and economic empowerment. Over the last ten years, this scheme has helped create an environment where girls in Haryana and across India can dream bigger, study further, and achieve their goals. It remains a key reason behind the launch of new schemes like Haryana’s Lado Sakhi Yojana, which continue this mission of empowering women and girls.
Lado Sakhi Yojana is a strong step by the Haryana government towards building a healthy, gender-equal society and empowering women at every stage. With additional support like cultural centres, financial help for startups, and digital initiatives in Anganwadis, Haryana is setting an example for women welfare in India.
