How to Apply for Nursery, KG and Class 1 Admission

STEP 1 - Visit the official government admission page at edudel.nic.in and check the guidelines and the list of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas.

STEP 2 - Collect the application form from the concerned Sarvodaya Vidyalaya between 2 March and 16 March 2026 on all working days.

STEP 3 - Fill in all the details of the child, including name, date of birth, address and the class for which admission is being sought.

STEP 4 - Get the form checked by the Help Desk at the school and drop the duly filled form along with the required documents in the drop box.

STEP 5 - The list of applicants is displayed on 18 March, and the draw of lots is held on 20 March at the school.

Age Limit for Admission

The age of the child is checked as on 31 March of the year in which admission is sought. For the 2026-27 session, the age limit for each entry class is given below.

• For Nursery (Balvatika-1) - Child should be 3+ to 4 years old as on 31 March 2026, meaning born between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.
• For KG - Child should be 4+ to 5 years old as on 31 March 2026, meaning born between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.
• For Class 1 - Child should be 5+ to 6 years old as on 31 March 2026, meaning born between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021.

An age relaxation of up to 30 days can be given at the level of the Head of School. Additional relaxation is provided to specially abled children as per the rules.

Eligibility

Children residing in Delhi are eligible to apply for admission. Priority is given in the following order - children living within 1 km of the Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, then children within 3 km who have no Sarvodaya Vidyalaya within 1 km of their residence, and then children within 3 km of the school. If no Sarvodaya Vidyalaya is available within 3 km, the child can apply to the school nearest to the residence.

Documents Required

The following documents are required at the time of admission after the child is selected in the draw of lots.

• Date of birth proof - birth certificate issued by MCD or any local body, anganwadi record, hospital or ANM register record, or an undertaking by the parents.
• One passport size photograph of the child.
• Residence proof of Delhi - ration card, domicile certificate, voter ID of any parent, electricity or water bill, bank passbook, Aadhaar card or passport.
• Caste or disability certificate in support of the reservation claimed.

Admission is not denied to any divyang, destitute, refugee, asylum seeker, homeless, migrant or orphan child due to non availability of essential documents. Provisional admission for 30 days is allowed on the basis of a simple undertaking by the parents.

Reservation of Seats

Seats are reserved in the Sarvodaya Vidyalayas as per the government rules - 15% for Scheduled Caste candidates, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe candidates, 3% for Divyangjan and 2% for the wards of Directorate of Education employees. If candidates are not available in the reserved categories, the vacant seats are filled by unreserved candidates as per the waiting list.
