Jharkhand Didi Bagia Yojana Convergence with MGNREGA
Jharkhand Didi Bagia Yojana has been conceptualized by the Rural Development Department. This scheme is made by the joint work of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). Under Didi Bagia Yojana, women entrepreneurs get man-days for the work done by them in their nurseries.
Till 12 July 2021, around 235 nurseries had already been established and were expected to produce more than 25 lakh saplings the next year. Didi Bagia Yojana aims to make Jharkhand self reliant in terms of saplings. So far, the saplings being planted under various schemes of MGNREGA were being procured from outside. With Didi Bagia Yojana, the saplings produced by SHG women will be purchased directly for plantation under MGNREGA.
Benefits of Didi Bagia Scheme in Jharkhand
Pushpa Devi (age 39 years), one of the beneficiaries under Didi Bagia Scheme, is preparing more than 10,000 saplings in her nursery after getting training from JSLPS. Didi Bagia Yojana helps women in the following manner:-
- Women get paid for the work done in their own nurseries.
- Women can make money by selling each of the saplings to the state government once it is ready.
For example, Pushpa Devi (one of the beneficiaries) gets paid for the work done in her own nursery and Rs. 80 on selling each sapling to the state government after it is ready. Pushpa Devi is preparing saplings of Seasam, Mahogany, Gamhar and mango, which is required for plantation under Birsa Harit Gram Yojana of MGNREGA. Under Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, a total of 192 saplings in each acre of land is planted.
Financial support for Jharkhand Didi Bagia Yojana is provided under MGNREGA for the next one and a half years, which includes materials required for setting up the nursery. All the saplings prepared in these nurseries are given primarily for MGNREGA schemes till financial support is being provided under Didi Bagia Yojana.
