Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is accepting new subscriber registrations only on the revised registration form issued by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and Department of Posts. The updated form has been required at all banks and post offices since October 1, 2025.
APY gives a guaranteed monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 to Indian citizens aged 18 to 40 who join and pay contributions regularly. The scheme has crossed 9.29 crore total enrollments, with assets under management of over Rs 57,296 crore.
Earlier version of the form, which was used till September 30, 2025, is now discontinued. Protean (formerly NSDL), the Central Recordkeeping Agency, no longer accepts registration files in the old format. All banks and post offices accept only the new Atal Pension Yojana form for new subscriber registrations.
New APY Subscriber Registration Form
The updated form includes a FATCA/CRS declaration, which is required to confirm the applicant's tax residency status. This declaration applies to a person who is a U.S. Person or whose country of birth, citizenship or residence is other than India.
Since an APY account opened through a post office is linked with a Post Office Savings Account, any subscriber who selects 'Yes' for the FATCA/CRS declaration cannot be enrolled through the post office channel. Only resident Indian citizens can open APY accounts through banks or post offices.
Anyone between 18 and 40 years of age who wishes to join Atal Pension Yojana must use this new registration form. Old forms will no longer be accepted for new enrollments. Also, new applicants who are, or have been, income tax payers on or after October 1, 2022 are not eligible to join APY.
As of June 30, 2026, APY has crossed 9.29 crore total enrollments across the country. The scheme is part of the Jan Suraksha Yojana framework, which also includes Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
