Medical Assistance (NBOCWWB) was a health support scheme of the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board for registered construction workers and their families. It offered cash help during hospital stays to reduce the money burden of treatment.
Today the board provides this health cover through Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). From 1 April 2022, registered building and other construction workers in Nagaland, along with their family members, get cashless hospital treatment under AB PM-JAY instead of the old Medical Assistance scheme.
Medical Assistance (NBOCWWB) - Overview
Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) works under the Labour and Employment Department of the Government of Nagaland. The board registers construction workers in the state and runs welfare schemes to give social security to these workers and their families.
Earlier, the board ran Medical Assistance to give cash support to registered workers and their family members when they were admitted to hospital. Under the old scheme, a registered worker got ₹1,000 per day for the first five days of hospital stay and ₹500 per day for the next ten days, up to a total of 15 days of continuous hospitalisation.
This standalone Medical Assistance scheme is no longer the main health cover. The government has moved the registered building and construction workers to AB PM-JAY, which gives a much wider and cashless health cover for the whole family.
