Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme gives a monthly pension of ₹500 to severely disabled people aged 18 to 79 who live below the poverty line in Chhattisgarh. The money helps them manage daily expenses and live with dignity.

Update (17 October 2026): Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) has a new name: Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana. Union Cabinet approved the change on 14 October 2026 and also changed the central rules of this pension:

  • Disability needed comes down from 80% to 40% (benchmark disability, in line with the RPwD Act 2016).
  • The minimum age of 18 years is removed, so a person with disability can get the pension from birth.
  • Central pension goes up from ₹300 to ₹375 a month up to 79 years, and from ₹500 to ₹625 a month for 80 years and above.

Ministry of Rural Development will issue new guidelines, and the new rules will be put in place within three months. Till then, the current rules and amounts given on this page apply. Any change in the Chhattisgarh amount will be added here once the state announces it.

This is a centrally sponsored scheme run by the Social Welfare Department of the government of Chhattisgarh. It covers people with severe disability of 80% or more, and those with multiple disabilities, whether they live in a village or a town.

Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme - Introduction

The scheme is part of the National Social Assistance Program. It makes sure that people with disabilities who belong to poor families get a steady monthly payment instead of depending on others for support. The pension amount is shared between the central and state governments.

Eligible people can apply online through the eDistrict Chhattisgarh portal or offline through their local panchayat or municipal office. Once approved, the pension is transferred directly to the bank or post office account of the beneficiary.

Benefits

Under this scheme, a beneficiary receives a monthly pension of ₹500. This amount is a shared effort, with a central contribution of ₹300 and a state contribution of ₹200.

The pension is paid regularly and helps cover basic needs such as food, medicine, and daily household expenses. It gives a sense of financial security to families who otherwise struggle to support a member with a disability.

Eligibility

To get the benefit of this scheme, a person must meet the following conditions:

  • Permanent resident of Chhattisgarh. The applicant should live in Chhattisgarh and have proof of residence.
  • Severe or multiple disability. The applicant must have a disability rated at 80% or above, or a combination of multiple disabilities. Under the new Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana rules, 40% disability will be enough once the new guidelines are issued.
  • Age between 18 and 79 years. Only people in this age group can apply for the pension right now. The new rules remove the minimum age, so children with disability will also be covered once the guidelines start.
  • Below Poverty Line family. The family should be listed under the BPL category.
  • No other pension. The applicant should not be getting a pension from any other state or central government scheme.

For example, Ramesh lives in a rural district of Chhattisgarh, has an 82% physical disability, and holds a BPL card. He qualifies for this pension as long as he is not enrolled in another government pension plan.

Severe Disability means a single disability rated at more than 80%. Multiple Disabilities means having a combination of different types of impairments.
