PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto component industry proposes financial incentives to boost domestic manufacturing of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products. It would attract investments in the automotive manufacturing value chain. The prime objectives include overcoming cost disabilities, creating economies of scale and building a strong supply chain in areas of AAT products. It will also generate employment.

The scheme focuses on Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) such as Battery Electric Vehicles and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles. Incentive under the scheme applies from FY 2022-23 to FY 2026-27, and the payment happens in the next financial year from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28.

Ministry of Heavy Industries released a new Gazette Notification dated 13 January 2026 for Performance Criteria for Battery Electric Vehicles. As on 30 November 2025, there are 82 approved applicants under the scheme, with 278 manufacturing units spread across states. Maharashtra has the highest number with 85 units, followed by Haryana with 43 and Tamil Nadu with 49.
As on 30 November 2025, incentive of ₹1,350.83 crore has been paid to five applicants. The eligible sales target till March 2028 over the base year FY2019-20 is ₹2,31,500 crore, and sales of ₹32,879 crore have been achieved till 30 September 2025.
