Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said about 10 lakh marriages were performed with government assistance under Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and this was a testimony to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s committed towards the welfare of poor and downtrodden. Kalyana Lakshmi, KCR Kit, Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema were role model schemes to the entire nation. They could be followed across the country, he said.

The Minister distributed cheques to 210 Kalyana Lakshmi beneficiaries and Rs. 26.46 lakh worth cheques to 56 Chief Minister Relief Fund beneficiaries on 13 February 2022. Addressing on the occasion, the Minister said entire nation was looking towards Telangana for the welfare and development programmes being implemented in the State.

Opposition parties criticised Rythu Bandhu scheme saying it was being introduced as a political strategy. Under this initiative, so far, in eight editions, Rs. 50,400 crore have been deposited into farmers’ accounts in the State, he said. Though, the entire world was affected due to covid pandemic, the Chief Minister ensured there was no obstruction in implementation of welfare programmes in the State, the Minister pointed out.

“Depending on the people’s aspirations and requirements, the TRS Government was introducing and implementing welfare programmes,” Niranjan Reddy said. Telangana was the only State, which extended Rs. 2000 crore financial assistance to four lakh people under the Chief Minister Relief Fund, he said.

Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant should have permanent residence in the Telangana state.
• She must belong to either of the scheduled caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), backward classes (BC) or extremely backward class (EBC) category.
• The minimum age of the scheme beneficiary (bride) must be 18 years at the time of marriage. The bridegroom age must be above 21 years.
• SC Income Limit : Rs. 2,00,000/-
• ST Income Limit : Rs. 2,00,000/-
• BC/EBC Income Limit : Urban – Rs. 2,00,000/- , Rural – Rs. 1,50,000/-

The state govt. is offering around Rs. 1,00,116 cheque to brides who belongs to SC / ST / BC / EBC family on their wedding. Previously in the year 2015, the amount under the Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme was Rs. 50000 but in 2017, this amount was increased from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,116 by the state government. Again in 2019, the state govt. enhanced the Kalyana Lakshmi Pathakam amount to Rs. 1,00,116. Earlier only SC / ST brides were included in Kalyana Lakshmi Pathakam Scheme but in 2017, the state govt. had included brides from BC and EBC categories to get scheme benefits. Even the brides from disabled categories can get an amount of 1,25,145 under Kalyana Laxmi Scheme.

Telangana government has raised the amount under Kalyana Lakshmi Pathakam Scheme by 25% for disabled women. The state govt. will now offer Rs. 1,25,145 to women with disabilities on the occasion of their marriage. Previously, the govt. provides Rs. 1,00,116 under Kalyana Laxmi Yojana to low-income families who are deprived of performing marriages of their girl children.
