Beej Swalamban Yojana helps farmers of Rajasthan produce high-quality improved seeds directly on their own farms. Managed by the Agriculture Department, this scheme provides subsidies and support so farmers can become self-reliant in seed availability, which leads to better crop yields at lower cost.

Rajasthan government keeps this scheme open for the 2026-27 season. Under the related National Mission on Edible Oil, oilseeds and pulses, the state approved a 135 crore rupees plan in 2026 that will give free or subsidised certified seeds to about 2.60 lakh farmers across the state.

Beej Swalamban Yojana - Introduction

Beej Swalamban Yojana helps farmers achieve self-reliance by promoting on-farm production of top-quality seeds. Launched to support the agricultural sector, this scheme provides up to 50% subsidy to small and marginal general farmers through the Agriculture Department. Farmers living below the poverty line receive free mini kits to start their seed production journey. The scheme encourages farmers to adopt modern techniques, saving on input costs while producing strong crops.

Originally introduced as a pilot project in Kota, Bhilwara and Udaipur, Beej Swalamban Yojana expanded across all blocks in the state from 2018-19 to widen its reach. Whether a small landholder or a progressive farmer, anyone can use this program for long-term benefit.

Here is how the scheme works:

  • Crop Selection: For the Kharif season, focus is on notified varieties of jowar, soybean, groundnut, moong, moth and urad. For Rabi, the focus includes wheat, barley and gram crops with a duration of less than 10 years.
  • Farmer Group Formation: Farmers join a group of 30 to 50 progressive farmers dedicated to specific crops, covering a total area of 50 to 100 hectares. Group members work together to streamline production.
  • Seed Producer Selection: Within the group, 2 to 4 members are selected as dedicated seed producers. The remaining members plan their next year's sowing using the high-quality seeds produced by these members.
  • Free Seed Distribution: Seed-producing members receive required base or certified seeds (Stage-I) free of cost.
  • Training and Rogging: Farmers receive training across three one-day sessions, with a budget of ₹30 per farmer (up to ₹1500 per training). Farmers also get ₹1000 per hectare for rogging, credited directly through DBT or RTGS to their bank accounts.
