Smart India Hackathon 2026 is the 9th edition of India's largest national-level product development competition. It was launched on 21 August 2026 and is organized by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC) and AICTE. University students across the country are invited to develop new software and hardware prototypes for real-world civic, industrial and ministerial problems.

Smart India Hackathon 2026 is a scheme that gives students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily life. This will inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving. SIH 2026 will give students a chance to work on problems faced within the private sector organisations and create world class solutions for some of the top companies in the world. This will also help the private sector to hire the best minds from across the entire country.
The SPOC (Single Point of Contact) registration for SIH 2026 closed on 31 July 2026. Institutions that completed their SPOC registration now get access to the released problem statements and can conduct internal hackathons. Students participate through their institutions only, so the college must first register its SPOC before student teams can submit ideas.

- Next click at the "Don't Have Account? Register Now" link and then in the pop up window select the "Problem Statement Creators/Challengers" option.
- Afterwards the Smart India Hackathon 2026 Problem Statement Creators / Challengers Registration Form will appear as shown below:-

- Here candidates need to provide their details and finally, candidates can click at the "Register" button to complete the registration process.
After completing the SIH registration process, candidates can make SIH Login to complete the application process. Moreover, candidates can lodge their Grievance in the SIH grievance form.

Smart India Hackathon 2026 Problem Statements
The SIH 2026 problem statements can be checked at the official website sih.gov.in. At the homepage, candidates need to scroll over "Discover About SIH" tab in the main menu, then scroll over SIH 2026 and then click at "Problem Statements" link. For SIH 2026, over 226 problem statements from 30 participating organizations across Software and Hardware categories and 18 different themes have been published on the official portal. Apart from getting solutions to problems in cost effective manner, this will provide an opportunity to brand your organisation nationally.

Who Can Participate in Smart India Hackathon 2026
For SIH 2026, each team must have exactly 6 student members from the same institution, with at least 1 female member. Teams can also choose 1 to 2 faculty or industry mentors for guidance. Members can come from different departments within the same institution.

Smart India Hackathon Process Flow
STEP 1 - Problem statements submission by Central & State Ministries, Departments, PSUs, Industries & NGOs on the SIH portal.
STEP 2 - Review of submitted problem statements and finalization by the concerned committee, followed by publishing of the finalized problem statements.
STEP 3 - Registration of College SPOCs on the SIH portal and blocking of published problem statements by SPOCs of colleges or institutes.
STEP 4 - Internal campus hackathon to be conducted in each college by its SPOC on the blocked problem statements to finalise the best teams.
STEP 5 - Team leaders of the selected teams register at the SIH portal to submit ideas against the problem statements for the SIH 2026 finale.
STEP 6 - Online evaluation and pre-screening of idea PPTs, shortlisting of national finalists, and the 36-hour Grand Finale at nodal centers across India in December.
