Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme gives a monthly pension of ₹1,000 to eligible people aged 18 and above in Jharkhand who live with severe or multiple disabilities and belong to families below the poverty line. The amount is split into ₹300 from the Central Government and ₹700 from the State Government.

Update (17 October 2026): Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) has a new name: Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana. Union Cabinet approved the change on 14 October 2026 and also changed the central rules of this pension:

  • Disability needed comes down from 80% to 40% (benchmark disability, in line with the RPwD Act 2016).
  • The minimum age of 18 years is removed, so a person with disability can get the pension from birth.
  • Central pension goes up from ₹300 to ₹375 a month up to 79 years, and from ₹500 to ₹625 a month for 80 years and above.

Ministry of Rural Development will issue new guidelines, and the new rules will be put in place within three months. Till then, the current rules and amounts given on this page apply. Any change in the Jharkhand state share will be added here once the state announces it.

This scheme is part of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and is being implemented in Jharkhand by the Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security. The state continues to accept fresh applications for this pension through the same offline process in 2026-27, and the new central rules approved in October 2026 (40% disability, no minimum age, higher central share) will apply once the new guidelines are issued.

Right now, the pension is meant for people with a disability level of 80% or more, as defined in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. This comes down to 40% under the new Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension Yojana rules once the guidelines are issued. The idea is to give poor families steady monthly support so that disabled members can live with dignity and take care of their basic needs.
