Its main aim is to help trainees who are facing mental, physical, or psychological stress and give them a safe, confidential space to talk about their stress, anguish, grievances, guilt, or feelings of neglect.
Counselors help trainees think more clearly and positively. They guide students on stress management, adjusting to the ITI environment, life transitions, family relationship problems, depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, and even thoughts of suicide. With professional support, trainees can work through their problems and continue their skill development journey without disruption.

Employment Conditions
Qualified professionals are appointed on a contract basis for 12 months. Contract renewal depends on performance, which is checked by a special committee. The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship pays for these services using state government or central government funds.

A trainee must be studying in a Government Industrial Training Institute under the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in Goa to receive counseling support.
For Counselor Applicants
The applicant should be 45 years or younger. A regular Masters degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or a Masters in Social Work with specialization in medical and psychiatric fields, along with at least 1 year of experience, is required. Alternatively, a regular graduation in Psychology, Social Work, or Home Science with a Diploma in Guidance and Counseling also works. A 15-year residence certificate and knowledge of Konkani are required.
For Supervisor Applicants
The applicant should be 45 years or younger. A regular Masters degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or MSW in medical and psychiatric fields, plus a Diploma in Guidance and Counseling is required. At least 3 years of counseling experience, including conducting training and workshops, is needed. A 15-year residence certificate and knowledge of Konkani are also required.
For Data Entry Operator Applicants
The applicant should be 45 years or younger. Passing the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination and holding a 3-month computer course certificate from a recognized institute is required. A 15-year residence certificate and knowledge of Konkani are also required.
Application Process
The Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship follows a clear selection process to appoint counselors, supervisors, and data entry operators.
STEP 1 - The department forms a dedicated committee to manage the selection process for all three posts.
STEP 2 - The committee conducts official walk-in interviews to check the qualifications and suitability of each applicant.
STEP 3 - Once selected, the candidate gets a 12-month contract, which the committee may renew based on performance.
