Karnataka Crop Loan Waiver Scheme – Latest Update September 2025

As of September 2025, the Karnataka Crop Loan Waiver Scheme is not active with any new waivers, but discussions are ongoing due to the heavy crop losses from recent excessive rains. Many farmer organizations are demanding that the government either announce a fresh loan waiver or set up a Debt Relief Commission to support farmers in distress.

The state government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is currently studying proposals to waive loans taken by farmers from cooperative societies and banks. To assess the real situation, joint surveys are being carried out by the agriculture and revenue departments in affected districts.

After the survey results, the government is expected to announce compensation and targeted relief measures. Instead of a blanket waiver for all, the focus is likely to be on specific categories of farmers who suffered major crop damage.

Karnataka Farm Loan Waiver Scheme Eligibility

The state govt. fixes the maximum principal loan amount to be waived off at Rs. 2 lakh. In his maiden budget speech, CM gives hints that the farm loan waiver scheme will be applicable on the loans taken from Nationalized and co-operative banks. However, there are certain restrictions on who could avail this loan waiver scheme benefits:-

• Families of officials of the cooperative sector are not eligible.
• All the families of government officials and other ineligible farm loan recipients are not allowed to take the benefits of this scheme.
• Farmers who have not paid income tax for past 3 years are also not eligible.
