JSSK Scheme 2026 guidelines are available to download in PDF format at nhm.gov.in. Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) is a central government scheme that gives free and cashless delivery care to pregnant women and free treatment to sick newborns and infants in public health institutions.

Launched on 1 June 2011 by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the scheme removes out of pocket expenses for institutional delivery. It is estimated to benefit more than 12 million (over 1 crore) pregnant women who use government health facilities for delivery every year.

About JSSK Scheme

JSSK Scheme entitles all pregnant women delivering in public health institutions to completely free and no expense delivery, including caesarean section, plus to and fro transport. In 2014 the entitlements were extended to all antenatal and post-natal complications of pregnancy, and similar benefits were put in place for all sick newborns and infants up to one year of age accessing public health institutions for treatment.

Entitlements for Pregnant Women in JSSK Scheme

Every pregnant woman who delivers in a government health facility gets the following free services under the scheme.

  • Free and zero expense delivery and caesarean section
  • Free drugs and consumables
  • Free essential diagnostics such as blood, urine tests and ultra-sonography
  • Free diet during stay in the health institutions, up to 3 days for normal delivery and 7 days for caesarean section
  • Free provision of blood
  • Free transport from home to health institutions
  • Free transport between facilities in case of referral and drop back from institutions to home after 48 hours stay
  • Exemption from all kinds of user charges

Sick newborns and infants up to one year of age who come to public health institutions for treatment get similar free services.
