Gujarat Farmers Smartphone Subsidy Scheme – Latest Update
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on 23 February 2022 started distributing financial assistance to farmers for buying smartphones. CM said “We are trying to ensure that farmers in the state do not miss out on the digital revolution launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This Gujarat Farmers Smartphone Subsidy Scheme will ensure that farmers are not left behind due to the price of the smartphones”. CM Patel distributed Rs. 1.84 lakh to 33 farmers in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.
“A total of 40,016 applications have been received by the agriculture department from farmers for smartphones. The budget allocation for providing smartphones to farmers is Rs. 15 crore. Under this farmer smartphone subsidy scheme, 40 per cent of the cost of the smartphones or up to a maximum of Rs 6,000 will be borne by the state government for the purchase of smartphones that cost up to Rs. 15,000 per unit,” as per the official statement.
These smartphones will help farmers access information regarding agriculture and relevant weather forecasts at their fingertips. They can use this knowledge in their farming. Around 25,000 farmers will benefit from this Gujarat Smartphone Subsidy Yojana.

Any landholding farmer in Gujarat can apply for the assistance of 40% of the total cost of a smartphone or Rs. 6,000 (whichever is less) on i-khedut portal to avail of the benefit of this scheme, said the Government Resolution (GR) issued by the state’s Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Cooperation department on Saturday. Subsidy Amount under Gujarat Farmer Free Smartphone Scheme
Farmers can buy smartphone of total cost upto Rs. 15000 with subsidy amount from the government. Gujarat govt. will give 40% of total cost of smartphone or Rs. 6000 as subsidy. The assistance under Gujarat Farmer Free Smartphone Scheme is valid only for the cost of the smartphone and not for any other accessories such as power backup device, earphones, charger etc. All landholding farmers are eligible for this scheme, but only one beneficiary in a joint holding farm will be eligible.
Benefits of Gujarat Kisan Muft Mobile Phone Yojana
The smartphone will make it easy for a farmer to access information regarding weather forecast, possible pest infestation, various schemes of the agriculture department, modern farm techniques and expert opinion etc.
The smartphone can also be utilised by farmers to apply online for various schemes of the state government meant for them by using smartphone facilities such as camera, emails, texts and multimedia services, GPS, web browser, internet connectivity among others, the GR said.
Once the application is approved, the beneficiary farmers will have to provide a copy of the purchase bill of the smartphone, mobile IMEI number, a cancelled cheque etc.
