Delhi government has launched the new Delhi Water Bill Waiver Scheme for domestic consumers and government establishments. The scheme has started and give a 100% waiver on late payment surcharge till January 31, 2026, followed by a 70% waiver till March 31, 2026. After this, no such scheme will run again. This move comes as Delhi’s unpaid water dues stand at ₹87,589 crore, out of which ₹80,463 crore or 91% is only surcharge.
Under the scheme, inflated and disputed bills will be recalculated through upgraded software, and the waiver will be applied automatically. Consumers will not have to fill any form or visit DJB offices for corrections. The surcharge rate has also been reduced from 5% to 2% per billing cycle, bringing long-term relief for lakhs of households. Camps will also be set up in colonies to help residents understand their revised bills.

Delhi Water Bill Waiver Scheme – Main Objectives
Main aim is to reduce inflated bills and close old disputes by removing heavy surcharges. Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has around 27 lakh consumers, of which nearly 16 lakh received inflated bills. The waiver will give these families a chance to settle dues fairly and get a clean slate. It also brings fairness in future billing by applying lower interest rates.
