Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY-Inland): Establishment of Back-Yard Mini RAS Unit helps individual fish farmers and groups across Gujarat to boost inland fish production. It offers cash subsidies to set up modern, space-efficient fish farming units, making sustainable aquaculture easy to access for everyone. The scheme is open for application in the 2026-27 financial year through the official I-Khedut portal.

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY-Inland): Establishment of Back-Yard Mini RAS Unit - Introduction

Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY-Inland): Establishment of Back-Yard Mini RAS Unit is a thoughtful scheme launched by the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation department to help fish farmers increase production through smart, sustainable practices. The scheme encourages inland fisheries by supporting the creation of fish hatcheries and advanced setups like the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and Biofloc. By using these technologies, farmers can produce significantly more fish even with limited land and water resources.

The Commissioner of Fisheries oversees this rollout with funding support shared between the central and state governments. A single Back-Yard Mini RAS unit costs ₹50,000. General category applicants receive 40% subsidy up to ₹20,000, while women, SC and ST applicants receive 60% subsidy up to ₹30,000. The total funding comes through a 60:40 split between the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. This financial support is provided once in a lifetime.

Main Aims:

  1. Accelerate inland fish farming activities in freshwater bodies to boost overall production.
  2. Promote modern techniques like RAS and Biofloc that allow higher output on smaller plots of land while using less water.
  3. Support the establishment of new freshwater hatcheries to build a stronger inland fisheries ecosystem.
