PM Modi cites over Rs 50 lakh crore in farmer support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said farmers had received or saved more than Rs 50 lakh crore through five central schemes and policy decisions over the past few years.

He said PM Kisan Samman Nidhi had transferred nearly Rs 4.5 lakh crore to farmers' bank accounts. More than Rs 18,000 crore was released on Friday to nearly 10 crore farmers, including over 50 lakh in Gujarat. Modi also said the Centre had spent nearly Rs 16 lakh crore to shield farmers from higher fertiliser costs, while wheat and paddy farmers had received Rs 24 lakh crore in MSP payments over the past 12 years.

Under PM Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers had received more than Rs 2 lakh crore for crop losses, he said. He said PM-KUSUM had provided around 12 lakh solar-powered pumps.
