AVYAY support for senior citizens in aided institutions
Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY), launched in 2021, gives eligible senior citizens accommodation, food and healthcare in aided institutions. Its Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens funds old age homes, mobile medical units and physiotherapy clinics through grants to NGOs, Panchayati Raj Institutions and local bodies.
Under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, eligible senior citizens can get assistive devices such as walking aids and hearing aids through special camps and Pradhan Mantri Divyang Vayoshri Kendras. Elderline, the National Helpline for Senior Citizens, is 14567 and gives free information, guidance and emotional support.
